Wellness is one of the big buzz words of today’s world. The wellness “industry” has now reached $1.5 trillion dollars worldwide. But what is it?

To understand what wellness is, let’s first look at the other side of the coin. Illness!
Everyone knows what its like to be ill. Even if you haven’t experienced it personally, you know someone that has. Of course, illness comes in different amounts and types. One could be ill for a few days, and other for years. Some may overcome it, and others not.
Reading the above paragraph, you were probably imagining hospitals, diseases, pain, and generally bad health. The truth is that illness does not always manifest itself in that way. It has its roots in our thoughts, actions, and our perception of the world. Illness takes flesh when everything seems to be going awry.
With all the negativity broadcasted and amplified by the media, no wonder wellness became popular in our lifetime. Wellness is the complete opposite of illness, and just the idea of something so powerful, gives us hope. It gives us hope that someday, things will take a turn for the better.
Wellness is not wealth, mansions and jet planes!
You know when you see a person that is well. They have a radiant look, confidence and generally act from a place of kindness and love.
Many believe that wellness is the new luxury. The truth is that wellness is not new and its not a luxury!
Wellness has been around since the beginning of mankind and is a state of mind. It can be found in small communities in the countryside that still carry out their customs and traditions. It can be found at the end of a hard day of work, and when you send your child off to school for the first time.
Wellness is being able to provide for your family. Having a strong relationship with the people around you. When you are able to have a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed the next morning. Wellness is when you make time in your days to do the things you love. It’s when you take care of yourself and the people around you, not only physically but mentally as well. A person that’s well doen’t worried about her health because she knows how great her insurance plan is. Instead, she eats right, get moving on a regular basis and is positive.
See, wellness is not just a buzz word. It is a state of being that we have detached ourselves from in recent years. You can never find wellness in physical things. Instead, you should look deep inside and start with a positive outlook on life. The rest will follow.
