Shoulder Pain

What Causes Shoulder Pain?

Shoulder pain is the third most common musculoskeletal complaint, behind back and neck pain, to seek medical advice (Rekola, 1993). The efficacy of corticosteroid injections for shoulder pain, one of the most common treatments in conventional medicine, is yet unclear according to the review article by Buchbinder and colleagues (2003).

The shoulder girdle (clavicle, shoulder blade, and humerus) is attached to the rest of the body mainly by muscles and ligaments. The only articulation between the shoulder girdle and the rest of the body is the sternoclavicular joint. In addition to this, the shoulder joint itself is the most unrestricted joint by nature. When you combine these two facts, it is evident how prone it is to injury.

How Does Chiropractic Help With Shoulder Pain?

Many shoulder injuries are caused by poor biomechanics of the spine, imbalances in muscles, and ligamentous forces. In order to identify the root cause of shoulder pain, one should look at all components of the system which is what we do at PEAKiropractic.

If left untreated, a minor discomfort in the shoulder could lead to increased wear and tear of the shoulder ligaments, but also affect other areas like the elbow.

Finding a qualified health care provider who will take the time to properly evaluate the origin of the symptoms you are experiencing is important. That is what we do at PEAKiropractic!

Elbow Pain

What Causes Elbow Pain?

Elbow pain is very common in people that play sports that involve overhead throwing but also tennis and golf. The severity of pain could be excruciating to the point where all activities are stopped.

We want our patients to feel their best and function their best. Just as Chumbley and colleagues state in their article about elbow injuries “Diagnosing the injury correctly requires an understanding of the anatomy of the elbow, which includes three articulations, two ligament complexes, four muscle groups and three major nerves.”. Even though elbow pain could have many causes, a thorough evaluation of the complaint and movement of the joints involved could help decipher the appropriate treatment.

Can Chiropractic Help With Elbow Pain?

As chiropractors, we are trained to evaluate all components of a joint for laxity, instability, range of motion, quality of motion, and any restrictions. Once these are assessed and the appropriate treatment is rendered, patients are on their way to swing the clubs again.

Wrist Pain

What is This Wrist Pain?

When talking about wrist pain, the conversation is always focused on carpal tunnel syndrome. Even though this is only one of the causes of wrist complaints, it is the most common peripheral nerve entrapment worldwide.

Symptoms of numbness and tingling in the fingers may be a sign of carpal tunnel syndrome. Despite the fact that it is the most common peripheral nerve entrapment site, other causes may still exist. A thorough examination of all signs and symptoms is necessary t to identify the proper treatment.

At PEAKiropractic, we pride ourselves in providing Precise, Effective, Alternative, Kiropractic.

Hip Pain

Why Does My Hip Hurt?

It was best said by Shakira and her song “Hips don’t lie”. On a serious note, hip pain is something you cannot ignore no matter the severity. Not only are they weight-bearing joints, but the nature of the joint also gives them a higher degree of freedom than other types of joints. This makes muscles, ligaments, and tendons to be a vital part of the stabilization of the hips. Any imbalance in these components over time can cause a plethora of conditions.

It is worth mentioning that when talking about hip pain in the health care system, you are referring to the actual hip joint and not the pelvic girdle. However, the two are very much tied together. If one is not functioning as it should, the other will follow soon after. It is with no surprise that in 2018, Lewis and his colleagues found a significant correlation between hip pain and altered movement. Our bodies are able to adapt in adversities, but what is the functionality of the adaptation? Many times, this will lead to early degeneration, worsening of symptoms, and so on.

Finding and correcting these imbalances is important to improve the functionality of the system and get relief.

Let us help you get through this with a specific, non-invasive treatment.

Knee Pain

The knee joint is a common concern for young athletes and elders. Because it is moved by some of the biggest muscles in our bodies, it can easily get irritated and noticed.

Overuse injuries are the most common types of knee injuries in young athletes and osteoarthritis in the elder. Some other causes of knee pain are infection, soft tissue tears, fractures, nerve entrapment, referral pain from soft tissue, low back, hip/pelvic, or ankle imbalances. Usually, the progression of severity is a good indicator of what is causing the knee discomfort.

Once all body parts work in harmony with each other, an overall improved function is the result. At PEAKiropractic, after a thorough examination of the knee pain and areas involved, we use the appropriate treatment to get you feeling your best.

Ankle Instability

Why Do I Always Roll My Ankle?

Ankle pain at any severity is not enjoyable. There about 23,000 reported ankle injuries per day in the US, with the lateral ankle sprain being the most common cause. Home remedies for this type of injury would be ice and rest.

It is noteworthy that the aftermath of an ankle injury is what causes discomfort. In a review study done in 2019, found that more than 66% of patients with chronic ankle instability experienced pain up to 7 years after the injury. Because of the ankle’s crucial role in our bodies’ awareness of space and balance, any insult to these mechanisms needs to be taken into consideration for faster pain relief and improved function.

It is best to have your ankle evaluated by a qualified health care professional, such as a chiropractor, to identify the root cause of ankle instabilityand get on the road to recovery fast.

At PEAKiropractic, we look at the body as a whole to find what’s keeping you back from feeling your best.
