How Often Should I See a Chiropractor

This is one of the most frequent questions we get from people: How often should you see a chiropractor? Below you will find the answer to this and other related questions.

Chiropractic Adjustment

Lets start by “What is a chiropractic adjustment?”.

The chiropractic adjustment is an impulse delivered in ones’ joint, that has a specific direction and goal.

The goal of the chiropractic adjustment is to reduce motion restrictions in the joint, improve mobility of the system and increase communication in the nervous system. These allow the body to function at its optimum capabilities, therefore going from a state of di-ease, to a state of ease.

The adjustment has a specific direction to correct for the restriction that is present. Not two people are the same, therefore, will present with different restrictions. Each adjustment needs to be modified to fit the characteristics of the patient being treated.

How do Chiropractors Know Where to Adjust

We hear this every day!

Patients are always surprised that we can accurately locate the specific areas involved in their complaints and correct them. The question always follows: “How did you know where to adjust?”.

Every chiropractor had the same question in their mind the first day of chiropractic school. After daily studying, practice, and execution for 3.5 years to be a Doctor of Chiropractic, one only begins to understand this question.

When in-tune with the body, you hear its whispers. These are subtle differences in temperature, tone, tension, motion, posture, inflammation, and color of the skin. Although, these whispers guide us to the area that needs to be adjusted, it is intuition that will help deliver the most effective and appropriate adjustment.

Asking the question of “how do chiropractors know where to adjust”, is like asking painters “how did they know where to stroke the brush”.

Chiropractic is an art, science and a philosophy. When trying to understand the components of it, you strip away its qualities that make it hole.

Are Chiropractors Good For You

A car analogy fits just right to answer this question!

Lets assume you have a car that you drive an average of 1.5 hours per day, 5 days a week. To maintain the vihecle in good shape, you put gas every week and change the oil every 5,000 miles. You also have to rotate the tires, keep the air pressure right, but also check the radiator and break fluids. And there always comes a time when something still goes wrong!

You put all that maintenance into a car that you drive less than 8 hours a week! Have you ever considered that we use our bodies 24/7? Non-stop!

Now you understand how often you should see a chiropractor. Getting chiropractic care on a regular basis is the maintenance to your body. At PEAKiropractic we make sure your body is working as it should every time. Just like the mechanic will inspect your car, and let you know what needs to be done for your vihecle to operate at its best, we will let you know what you need to do to function at your best!

You can now see how getting chiropractic care on a regular basis is not only necessary, its MANDATORY if you want your body to function at its best!

Why Should You Visit a Chiropractor In The First Place

A lot of people believe that chiropractic can only help with back pain and neck pain. And although those tend to be some of the most common reason people reach out to us, that’s not everything chiropractic can help with.

It’s always a surprise when our patients’ chronic headaches or heart burns go away after being under chiropractic care. Some other common reasons people reach out to us for are knee pain, shoulder pain and scoliosis.

Can You See the Chiropractor Too Much

Every person has a different body and lives a different life with different stressors. Going back to the car analogy, the more miles you put on the car, the more frequent the maintenance. The frequency of chiropractic care for an active healthy individual with no symptoms is not much as a person that doesn’t live a healthy lifestyle and has severe back pain.

Although it’s impossible to get too much chiropractic care, a frequency of 3-4 times a week is typical for someone that is in severe pain. For others that don’t have any symptoms, getting chiropractic care once or twice a month is ideal. It’s important to align the treatment with your own goals and improvements.

How long are chiropractic appointments?

This depends on what type of practice and treatment you want to receive. Do you want your body to be treated like a common every day car or a Rolls Royce?

You can find practices where you will only spend 2 minutes with the doctor. With PEAKiropractic, you only see the Doctor and appointments last about 15 minutes. This allows us enough time to properly assess and address not only joint disffunctions but also muscular imbalances that are contributing to your complaints.

A lot of our patients prefer us for our approach to care and the results are what makes them return. However, they always ask us how often should they see a chiropractor, because they want to know what to expect. We go more in depth on this topic in our article called “how long should a chiropractic appointment last?”

Does Chiropractic Really Work

We will not deny it that chiropractic is just like any other profession. There are some good ones, and there are some bad ones. The questions however, is not whether chiropractic really works, but rather the application of it by the provider.

Just like you would get a second opinion about a large car or a house repair, we encourage you to seek out a second opinion when it comes to your body as well. Time after time, we have patients tell us that they have tried everything and they are desperate for some help. Those same patients, typically become life long patients. They experience for themselves the changes that the proper application of chiropractic had in their life.
